Roof Pitch
The minimum pitch is 1:5 (ca. 12°). If the
pitch is flatter than 1:3 (ca. 18°) Katepal
underlay felt K-EL 60/2200 should be used.
Application Surface/Timber Boarding
The timber used should be air-dried rough tongue
and groove board or full-edged board. The surface
should be smooth, dry and firm. The shingles
can also easily be installed on old, unwrinkled
roofing felt.
Shingles Required
The quantity of roofing materials can be calculated
on the basis or the instructions given. The number
of shingles should be increased by 2% to allow
for wastage/
Underlay Felt Required
Use Katepal underlay felt K-EL 60/2200 for valleys;
1m2 for each running metre of the valley length.
If the pitch is flatter than 1:3, the required
amount of underlay felt is 1.15 x roof area.
Underlay felt should always be installed on side
eaves. In cold eaves areas, the underlay felt’s
upper edge should come approx. 0.5m from the
eaves to inside the external wall line and, at
skylights and slanting windows, the felt should
come from the eaves all the way to the window.
Nails Required
Each shingle is to be fixed with four nails.
0.06-0.07 kg of galvanised felt nails will be
required for each roof square metre (nail length
25-35mm).
Sealant Requirement
The quantities of Katepal sealant no.36 required
for sealing the joints are as follows:
- Chimney projections: 3 1/pipe
- Gable eaves: 0.1 1/gable eaves running metre
- Valleys: 0.4 1/valley running metre
Underlay felt seams: 0.1 1/underlay felt square
